Who’s On Your Team?

This week we hear from our interns, Mike McDevitt and Jack Miller. They will be working in multiple areas of Annex throughout the summer to help grow and develop their professional experience as they complete their education.

Where do you currently go to school?

Mike: I am entering my senior year at Ave Maria University, which is about 30 miles inland from Naples, FL.

Jack: I am about to start my Junior year at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.

What degree are you working towards?

M: I am working towards a degree in finance.

J: I’ve always loved the idea of utilizing your money to work for you, and I’m also obsessed with all things Real Estate. To combine those, I’m working towards a BBA, Finance with a concentration in Real Estate Finance.

What is a fun fact about you?

M: A fun fact about me is that I am the oldest of six kids.

J: I am an avid golfer. I played all four years at Marquette University High School and continue to play whenever I can. I attempt to get out every day after work and work on the swing, but that is easier said than done.

How do you hope to use the skills and knowledge learned at Annex in your academic and professional futures?

M: I hope to use the skills and knowledge I have learned at Annex as a foundation to further my understanding of the financial industry in my academic studies. Regarding my professional endeavors, I hope to use what I have learned to become a proficient and prudent financial planner that acts in the best interest of my clients.

J: I’ve only been at Annex for a couple weeks now, but I have already learned so much about the industry and the processes that a wealth management firm executes daily. My finance courses have prepared me for this internship, but an internship such as this one truly prepares me for the real world. From coworkers complementing topics that I have already studied in school to completing projects that are vital to our clients, this internship has already supplied me with so much knowledge of what transitioning to a full-time financial services job is like. I am very fortunate to have this internship (especially as an incoming junior) and without it, I simply would not be prepared as much as I need to be for the real world.

4 | Did You Know?

You can take Required Minimum Distributions (RMD’s) throughout the year.

You can indeed take your RMD at any time throughout the year either in a lump sum or split through systematic payments. Often people like to replicate a” paycheck” and receive their RMD monthly, or even quarterly. Call or email your Wealth Manager or Client Service Manager for assistance if you’d like to set up automated payments, or if you’d like to take a distribution.

An RMD applies to pre-tax retirement plans such as: Traditional IRAs, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, 401(k), 403(b), and more. You must take your first required minimum distribution for the year in which you turn age 72 (70 ½ if you reach 70 ½ before January 1, 2020).
