FEATURED: Let’s Do Something Good

Let’s bring smiles to the faces of kids and families who could use a smile.

Annex Wealth Management is again partnering with WSSP radio as a Title Sponsor of the 2017 Toy Drive to Benefit Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. The station is broadcasting live November 27th through Dec 1st from the drop off spot and Annex Wealth Management will be featured on-air Friday, Dec 1st.

PLEASE, give what you can this holiday season – either by helping us fill our box with toys for the kids who will be spending their holidays in the hospital, or through a tax-deductible check contribution made payable to “Children’s Hospital of WI.”

Toys can be placed in the toy box in our lobby starting Monday, November 13th and checks can be delivered/mailed to the Annex Elm Grove office.  Checks need to be in prior to noon on December 1st so that we can take them to the Toy Drive with us later that day.

Cloud Business Drives Amazon’s Profits

Amazon announced its third quarter earnings on Thursday, beating analyst expectations in terms of revenue but falling short below the line. The Seattle-based e-commerce behemoth reported total sales of $43.74 billion for the three months ending September 30, up from $32.71 billion in Q3 2016. Net profit was basically flat at $256 million.

As our chart illustrates, Amazon’s profit (or what is left of it) is mainly driven by its highly profitable cloud business these days. Amazon Web Services (AWS), the market leader in the highly competitive market for cloud infrastructure, accounted for more than 300 percent of the company’s operating profit in the past quarter because the rest of Amazon’s business actually ran a deficit. The fact that AWS accounted for little more than 10 percent of the company’s revenue at the same time, illustrates how high the operating margin is in the cloud segment compared to Amazon notoriously low-margin e-commerce business.

For many years, Amazon has reinvested nearly every dollar it earns into its own growth. And even now that the cloud segment is making so much money, it seems like Jeff Bezos isn’t running out of ideas to reinvest most of it.
